What to Bring

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Royal Jubilee Hospital have a psychiatric emergency service?
Yes. The Archie Courtnall Centre provides dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Services for patients experiencing mental health and addiction challenges. It is accessed through the main Emergency Department and offers intensive assessment and crisis intervention. Patients requiring longer stays are transferred to an inpatient unit within the Patient Care Centre.
Is Royal Jubilee Hospital the right place for a trauma or pediatric emergency in Victoria?
For major trauma and pediatric emergencies, Victoria General Hospital is the designated Level 2 Trauma and pediatric centre for the region. Royal Jubilee Hospital excels in cardiac, burn, cancer, mental health, and renal emergencies. If you are unsure, call 911 and paramedics will direct you to the most appropriate facility.
How does Royal Jubilee Hospital triage emergency patients?
Patients in the Emergency Department are assessed and treated based on the urgency of their medical condition, not the order in which they arrive. A registered nurse performs triage to determine priority level. This means someone who arrives after you may be seen first if their condition is more critical.
Where do I park when visiting the Royal Jubilee Hospital Emergency Department?
Parking is available in surface lots A through K surrounding the campus and is paid 24/7. The Emergency Department entrance is clearly marked on the campus parking map. You can pay at pay stations (coins or credit card only — no debit) or via HONK Mobile (Zone 702) or Pay By Phone (Zone 55702). Rates start at $1.50 per hour.
Is there a chapel or quiet space at Royal Jubilee Hospital for families?
Yes. The Pemberton Chapel, a recognized heritage building restored in 2003, is open 24 hours a day and is available to patients, families, staff, and visitors as a non-denominational space for solitude and reflection. There is also an All Nations Healing Room designed with input from First Nations Elders to provide a culturally safe healing environment.
What bus routes serve Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria?
BC Transit routes #8, #10, #11 (Fort Street side), and #14 all serve the hospital. A direct bus from Bay St at Cook St arrives at Royal Jubilee in approximately 6 minutes, running hourly every day. The hospital is also accessible by taxi, rideshare services, and bicycle, with bike parking and lockers available on campus.
