Frequently Asked Questions

Does Guysborough Memorial Hospital offer virtual urgent care?
Yes. Virtual urgent care is available for patients over the age of five with urgent but non-life-threatening health concerns. You must first check in with the ED triage nurse, who will assess your eligibility. If suitable, the hospital provides a quiet space and technology so you can have a virtual appointment with a physician on-site.
What diagnostic services are available at the Guysborough Memorial Hospital emergency department?
The ED is supported by on-site laboratory services, X-ray, and EKG. Note that the laboratory operates Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for scheduled services; emergency diagnostic support is coordinated through the ED as needed.
Will I be transferred to another hospital if my condition is serious?
Guysborough Memorial Hospital is a small community facility. Patients requiring higher-level care — such as major trauma, cardiac intervention, or stroke treatment — will be stabilized and transferred to an appropriate regional centre. The ED team manages all transfer arrangements.
Is there a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) service at this hospital?
Yes. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner services are available at Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Registered nurses with specialized education in medical forensic care provide confidential, supportive, and nonjudgmental care to patients.
Can I see a specialist at Guysborough Memorial Hospital?
Specialists such as pediatricians and surgical consultants are not permanently on-site. They visit through scheduled clinics. If you require specialist care, call the hospital at 902-533-3702 to confirm upcoming clinic dates. Emergency specialist needs are handled through patient transfer to a regional facility.
Is parking free at Guysborough Memorial Hospital?
