About Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital

The Magna Emergency Department at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and at roughly 127,000 visits a year it is one of the busiest emergency departments in Canada. The hospital opened in 2021 as the second site of Mackenzie Health, alongside Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital: 1.2 million square feet, 350 beds with room to expand to 550, 21 private critical care beds, and about 80 per cent single-occupancy acute care rooms. It sits at the northwest corner of Jane Street and Major Mackenzie Drive, just north of Canada's Wonderland. Inpatient pediatrics, obstetrics and inpatient mental health for Mackenzie Health are based here rather than in Richmond Hill, as is the Sorbara District Stroke Centre for York Region. The Emergency Department is on level 1 on the west side of the building.

What to Bring

Parking

Visitor parking is in the parking structure and lots on the west side of the hospital: the Parkade, plus Lot 2, Lot 4 and Lot 6. Rates are $5 per half hour, $10 for 31 to 59 minutes and $15 for one to one and a half hours, with a daily maximum of $17.75 and a 24-hour day pass at $22.75. Pay stations are at the level 1 patient entrance vestibule, the Emergency entrance, level 1 of the Parkade, level 0 Parklink, Lot 2, and in Lots 4 and 6. Accessible spaces are in Lot 6, the Parkade, Lot 4 and at the Emergency Department entrance, and need a valid Ministry of Transportation permit. Drop-off areas are in front of the Main Entrance on the south side and on the west side near the building, with a 10-minute maximum that security enforces. The Parking Office is in the parking structure on the west side, open Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., reachable at (905) 417-2000 ext. 5099.

Getting There

Major Mackenzie West Terminal is directly across Major Mackenzie Drive from the hospital, and a pedestrian underpass runs beneath the road so you do not have to cross it. YRT routes 4 and 6 Major Mackenzie, 20 Jane, 165 Weston, 320 Jane Express and 360 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland all serve the terminal, which has 12 platforms. By car the hospital is reachable from Highway 400, Highway 407 and Highway 401.
