Geraldton District Hospital operates a 7-bed Emergency Department serving the residents of Greenstone — including Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina, Beardmore, and Caramat — as well as surrounding First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario. The ER provides 24/7 physician and nursing coverage, including a trauma room, cardiac monitoring beds, and a Sexual Assault and Partner Abuse Care Program, making it the primary acute care resource for this vast rural region. Patients requiring complex trauma, cardiac interventions, or specialized care beyond stabilization are transferred to a larger city centre, and a heliport on site supports rapid air transport when needed.

Yes, the ER is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with physicians and nurses on duty at all times. However, after 8:00 p.m. Monday–Thursday and after 10:00 p.m. on weekends, the entrance is secured and you must ring the buzzer at the ER door to be admitted.

Yes. A Walk-In Clinic operates every Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is open to all community members of Greenstone. Patients must register in person at the Outpatient Registration desk — phone or online registration is not available.
